Certification process

What is a BAT/UDS Certificate?  A Breath Alcohol Technician (BAT) / Substance Abuse Collection Certification certificate is issued by me and attests that you fully understand the Department of Transportations' (DOT) rules and regulations detailed in their published document 49CFR Part 40 as well as instrument operation. This certificate is instrument specific and must be renewed every 5 years with the completion of a (written test) refresher course that can be mailed directly to you.

What is a Operator and Calibration Technician Certificate?  Manufactures certificate
The Manufacture issues a certification attesting that you are proficient and certified to inspect, maintain, and perform calibrations/cal checks on Lifeloc equipment. This certificate is important as the DOT requires that, as a user of the EBT, you must follow the manufacturer's QAP (Quality Assurance Plan) and Lifeloc's QAP states that calibration must be performed by a qualified operator. Both the BAT certificate that I will issue and a certificate for the specific EBT you trained on are needed to ensure compliance with the provisions of 49 CFR Part 40.  Your Goals   To have Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the equipment as well as the certification to Calibrate, Cal-Check and maintain the equipment...    Back

The Urine Collection Personnel

General Information

A collector is a person who instructs and assists employees at a collection site, who receives and makes an initial inspection of the specimen provided by those employees, and who initiates and completes the CCF.

The collector is the one individual in the drug testing process who has direct, face to face contact with the employee. Without the collector ensuring the integrity of the urine specimen and collection process, the test itself may lose credibility.

The procedure for collecting a urine specimen as outlined in 49 CFR Part 40 is very specific and must be followed whenever a DOT-required urine specimen collection is performed. These procedures, including the use of the Federal Drug Testing Custody and Control Form (CCF), apply only to DOT-required testing.

With the above in mind, it is important collectors fully understand the regulations and follow the established collection procedures. Therefore, collectors should familiarize themselves with 49 CFR Part 40, while paying particular attention to the following Subparts:

  • Subpart C - Urine Collection Personnel
  • Subpart D - Collection Sites, Forms, Equipment and Supplies Used in DOT Urine Collections
  • Subpart E - Urine Specimen Collections
  • Subpart I - Problems in Drug Tests
  • Subpart Q - Roles and Responsibilities of Service Agents
  • Appendix A to Part 40-DOT Standards for Urine Collection Kits
